Dr. Edward Fry developed a list of 1,000 words that helps readers quickly read 90% of all words found in books and on the internet. Hopefully, students can master 100 words during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. The last 700 words are to be divided between 4th and 5th grade.
Sight words should be taught along with phonics.
