Before starting a beak battle, I like to show the following video from HHMI BioInteractive titled, “Galapagos Finch Evolution“.
Battle of the Beaks, from The Linnean Society of London, is a great way to review phenotypes and to teach students about adaptations, when introducing the topic of natural selection.
There are other versions of this lab online, including a free version with a worksheet layout for students, from Science Rocks.
Battling Beaks (a.k.a. ForkBeaks), available from merrillville.schoolwires.net is another version that is fun, and you need less materials to complete this lab.
