The University of Utah has developed an excellent way to investigate reproductive strategies. There is a worksheet included, and several readings for students to explore. This is also nice, as it can be differentiated for different reading speeds. Teachers can indicate a minimum number of articles that need to be read, however all students are encouraged to read as many as time allows. I also like having students look for and highlight clue words within the reading passages. Afterward, we share these findings as a class, and I write the clue words on the whiteboard, while the students list the clue words in their interactive science notebooks. I use this lesson early on in a 7th grade genetics unit.
